The Fellowship of Virtuous Women is a monthly service just for women to worship, pray and receive Biblical teaching on living the virtuous life. This ministry is not to replace membership in a church, but is to inspire women to practice the teachings in their everyday lives and to share the teachings in their homes, communities and churches.
We seek to reach all women with the message of virtuous living, whether they are married, single, divorced, widowed, are mothers or childless. Titus 2:3-5 is our theme verse and we feel that even though it talks about marriage, there are elements of htis verse that EVERY woman should ascribe to. We feel it encompasses our vision of seasoned women in the Lord, ministering to other women in order to encourage them in the virtuous life:
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
The Fellowship of Virtuous Women was founded by Dr. Anika T. Prather as a result of the living example of her mother who faithfully lived out the virtuous life before her. Her mom is a pastor’s wife who never sought more than to be an example of virtue for her daughter and the women of the church where her husband served as the head pastor. Throughout Dr. Prather’s life as a single woman (she did not marry until 35 years old) and then in her life as a married mother of 3 kids, she was able to see the relevance of everything her mother stood for.
It is her desire to create a fellowship where women can be discipled regularly in these principles that her mother practiced before her. She wanted to create more than just a yearly conference, but a regular meeting time and space where women from various churches and denominations, can learn how to live out the principles of the virtuous life as taught in the Word of God. At each service different women may speak, but all will follow the vision/mission of the Fellowship of Virtuous Women.
